On September 17, 2023. I did my first ‘real’ golf tournament ever! It was a U.S Kids Golf event.
We played at PB Dye Golf Club in Ijamsville, Maryland. Mom said we have live in Maryland for alot of years and she had never heard of Ijamsville before.
What happened.
We played the front 9 holes (hole 1 to 9). Mom said that she was not prepared for the level of competition. My golf group had 2 other girls. One girl brought her personal golf coach out to the course with her. Anther girl had her parents there coaching her they had a fancy range finder that they pulled out on every hole to check the distance to the flag. Mom and I had no idea what a range finder was unstill that day.

The day started out a little cloudy but it was warm. By the time we made it to the 5th hole, it got cold and rainy. Mom told me to bring a jacket, before we left the car. But I didn’t want to, I was feeling cute. I should have brought a jacket. Lucky for me, someone had and extra jacket that they let me borrow. I will listen to mom next time. (In my defense, she is my caddie and should anticipate my needs😁)
See my cute pink golf clubs? I just got them, because they were pink. Pink is my favorite color. It turns out that the clubs were too long for me. I was having a hard time hitting the ball.
I tried hitting the ball with my Driver but I just couldn’t do it. I kept hitting into the ground. (My Driver was too long for my height. But it was cute 😊.) So I put the driver away and used my 7 iron for everything.
I should have brought a jacket. 🎶 Minuet Jazz 🎶
9 holes, wet shoes, and 2 hours later, we were finished. We shook hands and headed back to the club house to sign our score cards. My score was a 71 of 36 😖. I was +35 strokes over par. I came in dead last. Out of 6 girls I placed 6th.
Next it was time for the medal ceremony. This tournament gives out medals to the top 5 golfers in each age group. I came in 6th place. So I didn’t get a medal. I was pretty sad about that. But Mom gave me a pep talk and made me realize that it was only my first time doing a tournament, I will get better as a learn the game and practice more. She also bribed me with donuts.
I’m looking forward to winning in the future.
What I learned from this tournament
- Check the weather for the whole day of golf.
- Bring a jacket and snacks, just in case.
- I want to get a medal
- I’m going to practice more do I can win.
- Check the weather for the whole day of golf
